The Vinkeveense Plassen are a set of lakes east of Mijdrecht, near Vinkeveen. They were formed from the Golden Age onwards by digging peat to fuel Amsterdam, which left long, narrow strips of land (legakkers) between the water. Today the lakes are used for sailing, swimming, diving and cycling.
